About Lisa

The daughter of immigrants from Panama and Poland, Lisa Alcalay Klug was born and raised in the United States.

She spent several years studying in Israel and has visited hundreds of destinations as a travel writer for Fodor’s, Forbes Best of the Web, New York Jewish Week, Jewish Journal of Greater Los Angeles, Jerusalem Post, Forward, The Baltimore Sun, Men’s Fitness and other outlets.

An award-winning freelance journalist, Lisa has also covered technology for Forbes.com and Forbes ASAP, health for Self magazine, spas for SpaFinder, San Francisco Chronicle magazine and Fodor’s, personal finance for Hadassah and business for the New York Times. She has also written about arts and culture for numerous publications, including San Francisco Chronicle, Jewish Living, Jerusalem Report, Moment, Hadassah, JTA, Associated Press, Los Angeles Times, New York Times and more.

Lisa advises Schmooze: the Jewish Culture Conference, teaches at the Jewlicious Festivals, and judges the Simply Manischewitz Cook Off.

As a consultant, Lisa partners with organizations to present public programs, panel discussions, workshops, and seminars.

She is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of UC Berkeley with a bachelors in Middle Eastern Studies (highest honors) and a masters in journalism.

Lisa is the author and co-designer of Cool Jew: The Ultimate Guide for Every Member of the Tribe, her first book.
